There’s a lot of percentage of the women population that has a naturally hooded eye.
A monolid eye shape means that there’s no eye crease.
All the eye shapes have a lid, but with a monolid, for example, the lid doesn’t make a crease, and with Hooded eyes there’s an excess of skin on your brow bone and tens to look droppy.
There are six eye shapes (monolid, almond eyes, wide-set eyes, round, close-set and hooded eyes) all eye shapes are beautiful and can create amazing eye looks!
You just need to follow specific tips for each eye shape.

So,What are hooded eyes?
Hooded eyes are when a part of your lid drops above your eyebrow and a part of your eye.
It can look like you are tired or older than your age if you don’t do your makeup correctly for hooded eyes.
We can follow any makeup tools or tips if we want, but always keep in mind your eye shape to reach the desire look results.

What is a hooded eyelid?
We can describe it as an extra layer of skin that drops down between the eyebrow and the eyelid, and it causes your lid to appear smaller.
The eye shape has an eyebrow bone, crease, and lid.
And the hooded eye has more percentage of eyebrow bone a lower crease and looks like a little small to no lid.

How do you know if you have hooded eyes?
If you answer YES to 2 o more of the following sentences you probably have HOODED eyes:
- When your eyes are open, you can’t see many parts of your lid
- You struggle a lot with eyeliner, even more with a cat-eye style
- When you finally finish your winged eyeliner, once you look in front of the mirror, you realize that your eyeliner looks fallen.
- If you apply eyeliner and don’t let it dry enough, you instantly ruin your Eyeshadow previously work.
- You feel like you don’t have enough space to work with your eyeshadows.
Also, other eye shapes on older women can look like hooded eyes.
if you said yes to every sentence, you have hooded eyes for sure.

Some people confuse Hooded eyes with Deep-set eyes, and these are not the same.
However, a big percentage of the women with hooded eyes have also, Deep-set eyes!

Should hooded eyes wear eyeliner?
FOR SURE! Hooded eyes should wear eyeliner and also can rock a winged eyeliner cat-eye style.
BUTTTT… you need to look for a WATERPROOF eyeliner to get the best results!
Because with hooded eyes, our lid hides when we open the eyes and a regular eyeliner can ruin our eyeshadows.

How do I apply makeup to hooded eyes?
The best part of knowing your eye shape is that from now on, we can take advantage of the exclusive hooded makeup tips and create beautiful looks!
Don’t make the mistake of following precisely the same makeup steps as a beauty guru on youtube.
Hooded eyes do not apply Eyeshadow as other eye shapes, and should not do the same eyeliner technique.
You need to follow specific tips to have a complete eye balance and create an illusion of big, fresh, and open eyes.
First, I will share with you some essential TIPS for hooded eyes.
1. PRIME YOUR LID
The lid needs to be primed with a good and useful eyeshadow primer.
You need to avoid getting an oily lid because since the eyebrow bone skin covers your lid, your eyeshadows can get ruin if you don’t prime and set your lid first.
A good one that I recommend is this one here by Makeup revolution.
after you primer your lids, it’s super important to set it with a translucent powder.
Don’t avoid this step.

2. GO FOR BRIGHTER COLORS IN YOUR LID
Choose a lighters color on your lid, it can be with a shimmer finish or matte.
Because when we use a light color on our lid, we create the illusion of extending it and make it bigger.
3. AVOID USING SHIMMER EYESHADOW ON THE CREASE AND EYEBROW BONE
This mistake will create the opposite illusion of what we are seeking.
Go for a MATTE color in the eyebrow bone and crease area.

EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 1: TRANSITION SHADE
Take a transition color eyeshadow with a small fluffy brush to create a crease.
Typically we will put this eyeshadow tone in the crease like in the picture below, but if you do that with hooded eyes, you will lose your crease when you open your eyes.
That’s a big mistake!
We need to create a fake crease upper our crease and blend the Eyeshadow focusing on blend it to our eyebrow bone.
Take a little section of your eyebrow bone but leaving a small space to highlight the eyebrow bone later.
Next, to the same step but now with a darker tone.
Keep following your new crease, and try to create a more profound effect with an eyeshadow that is one or two tones darker than your transition shade.
This time, it is doing it with a small precision brush and then getting back with your small fluffy brush to perfectly blend it out.
BE CAREFULwhen you are blending a hooded eye!
You don’t want your Eyeshadow down your lid, try to always blend in an upward direction.

EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 2: CUT THE NEW “FAKE” CREASE
We will do a soft cut-crease eye makeup, so next
Take a small precision brush and a white concealer (if you don’t have with you can use any light tone of concealer or your lighter foundation).

Cut your new “FAKE” crease that we created with the transition shade very carefully and then with a flat brush, blend your concealer down to your lash line.
Next, you can apply any color of eyeshade that you like!
PRO TIP: Go for lighter colors to get the illusion of a more prominent eyelid.
You also can choose a shimmery color or glitter.
In this tutorial, we will use pressed glitter.
With a flat sponge brush, take a bit of setting spray and then take the pressed glitter.
(you can either use this technique or use your fingers directly).
Apply the glitter in the same area where you apply the white concealer following the new crease that was created.
A BIG MISTAKE is to continue following the natural crease and apply the lighter eyeshade in the small lid section.
Here’s the difference.
EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 3: GET A DEEPER CREASE
Next, with a thin small brush and a dark shade, we will cut or crease even more.
Apply the eyeshade right up the lighter shade to get a more profound illusion and finish our new “FAKE” crease.
You can get back to the transition shade to get a better-blended finish.
Try to not touch the shimmery zone.
EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 4: HIGHLIGHT THE EYE LOOK
Now it’s time tohighlightour eye look.
As we have a hooded eye with a very pronounced eyebrow bone, we need to avoid making it even more bulge.
Acommon mistakeis to add a shimmer white creamy eyeshade on the entire eyebrow bone.
You need to use a thin and small flat brush and apply a matte light shadeonlyright down your eyebrow.
Avoid going over down when you will blend it.
EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 5: EYELINER
The next step is to apply your favorite black eyeliner,
I will touch this step very quickly since I have the full step-by-step eyeliner guide for Hooded Eyes and you need to check it for more quick-win hooded eyes tips!
You can either choose from liquid eyeliner, pen eyeliner, or eyeliner your eye with a dark eyeshadow.
The point here is to keep the line as thin as possible, so you can still show some lid when your eyes open.
Do not apply eyeliner on your water line either in your lower lash line.
That will create a fallen-eye illusion.
EYESHADOW TUTORIAL FOR HOODED EYE STEP 6: EYELASHES
After your eyeliner, if you want to create a more dramatic look, you can apply some eyelashes.
Go for a pair that has a thin, clear strip, and I recommend a clear lash glue as well.
Clear OR transparent strip on false eyelashes are crucial for hooded eyes since you want to show your lid as much as possible, a thick black strip will do the opposite and hide your eyelid even more.
Apply a highlighter eyeshade to your inner corner, and your eye look is ready!
